Giethoorn is a charming 800-year-old village in the northeast of the Netherlands. It is about a 1.5-hour drive from Amsterdam to Giethoorn, making it a perfect day excursion. Often called the ‘Venice of the North’, it’s filled with beautiful canals and fairytale-like wooden bridges. With this tour, you will have your own private 6-people electric boat for 2 hours to explore this beautiful town from the water (easy-to-ride boat) or you can join a 1-hour public boat tour.

DESCRIPTION
Climb aboard an air-conditioned Mercedes minivan with your personal driver guide and travel through a typical Dutch landscape for 1.5 hours enroute to the picturesque town of Giethoorn.
Continue to the Enclosing Dike (Afsluitdijk), the 32-kilometer dike connecting the provinces of North Holland and Friesland. The Netherlands is famed the world over for the way it deals with water management.
Admire the Afsluitdijk, built to tame what was formerly the Zuiderzee (now the Ijsselmeer Lake), and a prime example of Dutch water prowess.
At Giethoorn, experience how the Dutch people live with, and on the water upon arrival, and set off to explore on foot and by boat.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of a town where cars are forbidden, and little has changed over the centuries. Admire the many types of boats in the town, from gondolas to punters and flat-bottom vessels used as transportation on the canals.

The Afsluitdijk is a major dam and causeway in the Netherlands. It was constructed between 1927 and 1932 and runs from Den Oever in the North Holland province.
It is the ideal testing ground for innovative and sustainable energy sources. Wind, sun, water, it’s all there. At the Afsluitdijk, using water currents and the confluence of fresh and salt water to produce energy.
